Why the hate

In 2007 we witnessed more bloodshed than we ever have. I was born in Eldoret and I come from the two tribes that fought so viciously there. So how did one view the other? First I will start with kikuyus. Contrary to popular belief, most of them did not buy the land they live in. It was given to them by Jomo when he settled then in uasin gishu against the will of the kalenjin. This was done in tandem with making Moi vice president to placate them. Anyways most kikuyus in rift valley are hustlers in the real sense of the word. Plainly poor. While they had been shunned by their hosts they had somehow managed to create their own community. They never understood why they were hated. The kalenjin to them were backward people who for the sake of it; enjoyed violence. The most correct way to describe their hate for kalenjin is disdain. Now the Kalenjin, they had like all tribes suffered under the British. Settlement schemes in their land by Kenyatta was seen as an affront to their future. While Moi cooled tensions while it benefitted him, he lit it when he needed for political gain, thus 92 & 97 violence in the rift. The Kalenjin viewed the Kikuyu and there is no right way to say this as an infestation and a cancer. In their eyes the Kikuyu only sought to dominate them. The correct way to describe their hate for kikuyus is disgust. So what is true? Whose hate is justified? None. Both are pawns and have always been and will continue to be until the end🧸
